Aptitude test feedback demonstration
A talk by Dr Graham Tyler (Consultant Psychologist, PsyAsia International)
About this talk
In this unit, you will listen to a feedback session where a candidate receives results from two workplace aptitude tests: numerical reasoning and mechanical comprehension. The instructor explains how the candidate’s scores compare to others, discusses ways to improve, and reinforces the importance of confidentiality and fairness in the assessment process. This session highlights how test results fit into the broader selection process and the supportive approach taken when giving feedback.
After this talk, you will:
• Understand the purpose of feedback sessions after aptitude tests.
• Know how confidentiality and data storage for test results are managed.
• Be aware that aptitude tests often do not have “pass” or “fail” results.
• Recognise the different types of tests used in selection, such as numerical reasoning and mechanical comprehension.
• Understand how your performance is compared to a relevant group (reference group).
• Learn that test results are only one part of the overall assessment process.
• Be aware of ways to improve skills, such as practising numerical puzzles for numerical reasoning.
• Know that you can ask questions or request your test data to be destroyed within a year.
• Understand the importance of considering both strengths and areas for development from assessment feedback.
• Be reassured that support and contact details are available if you have follow-up questions.
